Spread a little luck and wish someone a Happy New Year at the same time with this terrific little lucky token. A symbol of luck in Austria, the pig has graced the Austrian Mint’s annual lucky token since 2016. Our New Year talisman 2018 features the happy hog on his back with a contented grin on his sleeping face.

Few animals look as happy as pigs when relaxing. The happy hog is a case in point: flat out, he is snoozing under the shade of that universal symbol of good luck, the four-leafed clover. Behind him stands a mushroom, also a symbol of good luck in the German-speaking world, while a lucky ladybird buzzes overhead. It is thought in some cultures that when a ladybird lands on you the number of spots on its back show the number of months of good luck you will have. In former times, the beetles were considered a symbol of protection as they saved farmers’ crops by feeding on the aphids that destroyed them.

This talisman is available in gold, silver, silver gold plated, and bronze.

This product is only available in Austria and in Germany.
