Artificial Intelligence: Friend or foe?

Artificial Intelligence, the 2019 Silver Niobium edition, looks to a future that has already begun. We humans have been using artificial intelligence, in the form of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, to think for us for quite a while now. Highly functioning and always available, computers help us go about our daily business in a reliable fashion without us even noticing. Brain-teasers that adults find incomprehensible are child’s play for computers. The creative genius that has long distinguished humans from our physical superiors, the animals, is in danger of being superseded. Yet, ironically, we remain superior to robots in terms of our ‘animalistic’ abilities, which include our perception and motor skills. Will this ‘super intelligence’ imprison us or will it set us free? Only time will tell if artificial intelligence will lead us to the promised land.

COIN MOTIF
The coin’s obverse shows the head of a humanoid robot in its electric-blue niobium core and a processor from which conductor paths extend to the silver outer ring. The coin’s reverse symbolically depicts developments related to artificial intelligence: the e-health system, smart machines, processors, digitalisation, data analysis and artificial neural networks. Neural synapses spread from the outer ring into the niobium core where they meet a binary code. In the foreground, we see the outline of a head symbolising our ignorance about the future functioning of humanoid super intelligence.

ISSUE DATE:

12th of June 2019

20 euro silver niobium coin both sides

A global innovation when launched almost a decade ago, our 25 Euro Silver Niobium coins still combine state-of-the-art numismatic design, technology and aesthetic beauty like few others.

Every year since 2003 their silver outer ring and coloured niobium core, which is attained by oxidation as opposed to the application of artificial colour, have provided the perfect backdrop for exploring suitably technological themes, from astronomy to aviation, robotics to renewable energy and electric light to television.

As well as being ideal gifts, our silver niobium coins are also extremely popular with collectors and investors.

Artificial Intelligence, the latest coin in our Silver Niobium series, will be issued on the 12 June 2019.

Eye-catching, innovative and informative, it is small wonder that these numismatic marvels have proved so popular as gifts as well as with collectors and investors.

In fact, in the nine years since we first launched them, several in the nine-coin Silver Niobium series have sold out. They are, however, available in the thriving secondary market, where collectors avidly seek and trade them, sometimes for several times their 25 euro face value.

Coin collecting makes sense for so many reasons. It is great fun and highly informative, both a fascinating and satisfying hobby, and it can also be highly rewarding financially. Our niobium series is proof that coins are so much more than things of beauty. So why not order one or more of those still left in stock? We think you’ll appreciate it. It will no doubt appreciate in value for you too.

This beautiful frame allows you to display your coins in a completely new way. It makes coins appear to be floating inside its transparent silicon membranes and lets you look at both sides of your coins at all times. The frame's magnetic catch makes it easy to lock, while its flexibility means that it fits coins of any shape and holds them firmly in place.
