Sporting a winged helmet, the Roman god Mercury is seen lost in thought on the Calendar Medal 2026. Through Roman trade, the cult of Mercury spread far to the west and north and alchemists began to use the term ‘mercury’ to designate volatile substances such as alcohol and quicksilver, known today as mercury.
