Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928 – 2000)
The work and impact of Friedensreich Hundertwasser are among the most important contributions in the history of post-war modern art. He developed his unique visual language as an important member of the international avant-garde in Paris in the 1950s.
Hundertwasser's groundbreaking ecological commitment and his dedication to a more human architecture in harmony with nature developed from his belief in the power of nature and individual creativity. He disseminated his criticisms of civilisation and his ecological views in manifestos, writings and action in which he disapproved of the pure functionality of all areas of life, the unrestrained doctrine of growth and adaptation to social conformism. Hundertwasser's trump card was the beauty of his art and its message of natural harmony,
peace and joy.
