Lucky Token 2024: The Dragon
A fabulous New Year gift, the Lucky Token 2024 features Kurti the lucky pig flying on a kite. Not just any kite, mind you, but Loong, the most popular of all Chinese lucky charms. Kurti squeals with delight while the dragon grins mischievously, its body resembling that of a snake, its scales those of a fish, its head and mane those of a water buffalo. Its goatee completes its unusual appearance. The other side of the Lucky Token bears a German text that translates as “small and round I may be, but every day I bring luck to thee”.
According to legend, the Chinese are descendants of the dragon. To this day, the mythical creature is very popular in the Far East, especially China, where it is omnipresent. Unlike in Europe, the dragon is mostly a benign spirit in China, rarely an evil demon. Various local dragon deities are still worshipped today, especially in rural areas, when asking for rain, for example.
The Chinese zodiac recognises 12 animals, with each calendar year ruled by a different animal. The Chinese Year of the Dragon begins on 10 February 2024.
The following inscription appears on the back of the lucky token: “Small and round I may be yet every hour I bring luck to thee”.
The Lucky Token 2024 is also available in gold, silver and bronze.
