The western signs of the zodiac go back to the Babylonian tradition of some 3,000 years ago, which identified patterns in the sky to determine the periods for sowing and harvesting crops. In ancient Greece, the area of the sky that the sun appears to "pass through" when seen from earth was divided into 12 sections that corresponded to the months of the year. In Europe, the view prevailed that these 12 sections represented certain constellations that formed the basis of the western signs of the zodiac.
Up until the seventeenth century, there was no question that astrology was science. Astronomers such as Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei collected data on the position of the stars and planets and made predictions based on this. Today, everyone has an opinion about this and zodiac signs are often collected or given as gifts. Whether as talismans or part of a family collection of zodiac signs, the coins in this series are designed to be lucky tokens for you and your loved ones. There are still some special surprises in store for you, but we can't reveal everything just yet.
