Cash payment is the easiest method of payment. The limit for an anonymous purchase in Austria is €9,999. It should be noted that anonymous gold purchases are only possible in physical outlets, such as precious metal dealers, banks or the Münze Österreich shop in Vienna.
The legal regulations, which are aimed at preventing money laundering and terrorist financing, oblige Münze Österreich to verify the identity of the buyer for sales and cash transactions made within six months with a total value of €10,000 or more. This is done by means of a passport, identity card or driving licence, the number of which is noted on the receipts. We are also required to do this by law if several purchases totalling €10,000 or more are made within a six-month period.
