You can obtain the link by selecting the Online legitimation menu item in the customer account and then following the further steps described there.

Once you get to WebID in the process, a WebID employee welcomes you online and guides you through all the steps.

In some cases, before a video call is set up, you are asked to hold your identity document in front of the camera so the system can automatically check that nothing is amiss with it. There is also a check to see whether this identity document is one of the 2,500 various international identity documents from 175 countries that can be examined in the process. Once this has been verified, the video call can begin.

For you as a private customer, the video identification process is free of charge. The fees for the process are paid for by Münze Österreich AG.

WebID complies with and exceeds all data protection regulations and other requirements and laws. Münze Österreich AG receives your personal data, and WebID encrypts and secures it multiple times, satisfying the strictest requirements of data protection and reliability. WebID has a high-security identity centre in Solingen with sophisticated access controls. Only trained staff carry out identification processes and have access to the data from each process involved. The staff are trained by criminal psychology experts from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and undergo further training every six weeks.

WebID offers its services worldwide. All WebID staff speak German and English, and the information on the WebID website is also available in both languages.

For successful identification using a mobile device, you simply need the "WebID app", which you can download via the App Store or Google Play Store. For the app from the App Store, the latest iOS version should always be used. Alternatively, you can also prove your identity yourself using the standard browser on your mobile device (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

The latest version of an internet browser is needed for the WebID session. Mozilla Firefox ESR, Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Apple Catalina are the most suitable for this. Your bandwidth must be at least 2 Mbit/s (DSL, LTE, VDSL). This is the case in 95 percent of German households. There are no limitations in terms of operating systems. You need a webcam on your PC.

You begin the video identification, for which you should have your identity document on hand. A WebID employee then guides you step by step through the process of proving your identity and checks your data and identity document. At the end you are asked to enter your TAN number online. The TAN is sent to you via text message once your details have been confirmed.

Yes, WebID was the first provider to clarify the admissibility of video identification in direct consultation with the Ministry of Finance. This was the catalyst for the corresponding BaFin circulars 1/2014 and 3/2017 (GW), which describe the requirements for video identification. All WebID customer audits have shown that the requirements are being met.

Proving your identity takes an average of four minutes.

You can use any valid Austrian or German personal ID or passport. WebID also recognises virtually all international IDs – particularly from the EU, Turkey, the EFTA states and the USA, a total of 2,500 different documents from 175 countries.

Once the call with one of the WebID agents has been completed, you receive a message via e-mail informing you that the identification process has been successfully completed. This is sent immediately to Münze Österreich AG and they then handle it from there.
